Why Does God Allow Disability?
Plus, a sperm donor with 550 children and surrogacy, criminalized?
Season 1, Episode 5 Now on YouTube!
The reviews on this episode speak for themselves. I’ll share these comments from a listener. Might be my favorite feedback, ever:
“I absolutely have loved listening to this podcast. I have a younger brother with Down Syndrome and have always struggled to reconcile my love for him with my desire to have him be without his genetic abnormalities and limitations.
This podcast series has made me think in ways I never had before and has helped me explore my relationship towards him and with others who are disabled.
As a healthcare professional, it also has provided further insights into my role in patient care and in the medical field as new technologies arise and present new challenges for us to face. Thank you Samantha and all of the speakers in this podcast series!”
What’s new in bioethics?
A Dutch sperm donor and father of 550 children is being sued for increased incest risk. Not to worry, he says. Lawsuits won’t deter him from his mission to sew his seed.
An Italian bill being proposed to criminalize surrogacy is causing much uproar. You can’t sell your kidneys, but it is okay to rent your womb and throw your biological child in the mix for good measure, apparently.
Speaking of eggs, The Washington Post reports that Big Fertility is hiking up storage prices for frozen eggs. Now that you’ve delayed your fertility ladies, we’ll see how much ($$$) you really want that child.
Watchlist:
The Mexican drama “The Surrogacy” has an intriguing plot, decent acting, and bad dubbed dialogue. If you can overlook the cheesy dialogue and enjoy the intrigue of a telenovela, the series raises interesting questions about the implications of surrogacy.
If you’re looking for a free education, this professor is putting his Bioethics 101 lectures on YouTube. It is not a specifically Catholic course, but it is a solid introduction to current philosophical debates in bioethics.
